Our design effectively captures harmful fumes using a special hood and two fans that create strong suction to pull the smoke away from the user. While traditional extractors may offer more power, they are bulky and expensive. Our design provides an affordable and portable alternative with sufficient efficiency for small-scale soldering tasks.
We tested the prototype by conducting controlled soldering experiments in a closed environment. We observed how quickly the smoke was removed and used visual inspections and air quality sensors to check for residual fumes. The results showed a significant reduction in visible smoke and improved air quality.
Yes, the device is designed with efficient, low-power fans that can operate continuously for extended periods without overheating. However, for optimal performance and longevity, we recommend periodic breaks to allow the fans to cool down.
Currently, our prototype has not undergone formal certification, but we have followed standard guidelines for airflow and fume extraction in our design process. In the future, we plan to pursue certifications such as OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) compliance to ensure safety standards are met.
Our design significantly reduces exposure to harmful fumes but does not completely eliminate the risk. For full protection, users should also follow safety practices such as working in well-ventilated areas and wearing protective equipment.
Based on our current prototype, the estimated production cost is around $50-$70 per unit, depending on bulk manufacturing and material choices. This is significantly lower than traditional fume extractors, which can cost several hundred dollars.
Our primary target market includes hobbyists, DIY enthusiasts, and small workshops that require affordable and portable fume extraction solutions. However, with further improvements, it could also be beneficial for larger manufacturers seeking a cost-effective alternative.
